First Health Finance

Cosmetic Surgery

Financing the New You

  • Most medical aids don’t pay for cosmetic surgery, or will do so only under certain circumstances. One such example is when the size of your breasts causes health problems which can be solved by a breast reduction. First Health Finance offers a solution to this problem by financing various cosmetic procedures.
  • Cosmetic or plastic surgery has historically had a bad reputation of catering to superficial whims and was therefore deemed unnecessary. This kind of surgery was seen as an indulgence, or at best a career boosting strategy for those in the entertainment industry.
  • But opinions have changed. While it remains a controversial topic to many, there has been a shift toward a more understanding and kinder view of these procedures and the people who seek them out. For example, pregnancy can wreak havoc on a woman’s body – not everyone is blessed with a genetic makeup that will ensure a return to your pre-pregnancy body, regardless of how hard you work. It is also a fact that there are limits to how much you can change your body by means of diet and exercise.
  • You might just be unhappy with the physical shape you were born with and suffer from poor self-esteem as a result. While cosmetic surgerycan’t work miracles, it can greatly improve the way you feel about yourself and change the way you interact with the world for the better.
  • First Health Finance not only covers common cosmetic procedures like breast augmentation. We stay up to date with developments in the field of cosmetic plastic surgery. This can be seen by the fact that we provide financing for the relatively new consmetic surgery procedure labiaplasty, which is fast gaining popularity around the world.

Complication Insurance

The vast majority of medical insurance companies do not cover medical complications, if they arise as a result of an elective cosmetic procedure. As a result, FHF together with Genlib Insurance (FSP # 35482) has developed an innovative product called FHF Assure to address this possible complication.Complications are highly unlikely to arise, and normally occur in less than two out of every one hundred patients.

However, the cost of fixing the complication can add significant and additional costs to the original price of the procedure. FHF Assure is an affordable way of ensuring that in the unlikely event of a complication; potentially expensive additional costs will be covered (limited to the amount of the policy).

This product is only available to patients of plastic surgeons who are registered with the HPCSA, who are also members of the Association of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons of South Africa.

Treating and minimizing Scars

scar-tissue 01

Whether from an injury, surgery, or a skin problem such as acne, scars are something almost everyone has to deal with at some point or other. Scars may be flat, indented, raised, inconspicuous or obvious.

Scar Therapy is very important within the first 3-6 months of scar-maturation. Understanding how scars form, scar therapy & what type of scar you're dealing with can enhance the appearance of your scar.

My Plastic Surgery Costing

The cost of any type of elective plastic surgery plays a major role in the decision to undergo the procedure(s). For some potential patients, this is often one of the very first factors they inquire about.

Many sources of plastic surgery cost and pricing information can easily be found on the Internet and provide a general cost range. While these are helpful, they do not necessarily apply to any particular patient or their specific concerns. Many times, prospective patients are not even sure what procedure(s) they need (e.g. tummy tuck or breast implants vs. breast lift), which makes predicting the cost of their treatment impossible without a comprehensive physical evaluation.

How Kelo-Cote Works

30 something - Age management

30 something 01

Imperative age management starts now!

Thirty is the tipping point of aging. You don’t look much different to several years ago, but the next 3-5 years are decisive. Today’s 50 year olds look like 40, and the 40 year olds like 30, but what about the actual 30 year olds? Chances are, the prick of a cosmetic needle or scalpel is still unexplored, but can we bear staying in the dark for much longer?

30 something 04At 30, things are actually not as good as they appear.

Dull, tired skin with fine lines & wrinkles, sun spots, pigmentation, acne scarring & enlarged pores, all suddenly become apparent due to accumulative sun damage and ageing...

Fine lines and wrinkles cause concern amongst most women at any age, but the effects of sun damage and premature ageing can easily be remedied with an active anti aging regime.

The following is a rundown of our anti ageing tips for people in their 30ties:

  • An active skin care regime followed by a daily SPF application should be well afoot to ensure a more radiant and youthful complexion by the age of 40.
  • Medical skincare ranges include:
    • Neostrata, Skin Medica, Environ & Meso Esthetics-Cosmelan.
    • Broadspectrum SPF: Heliocare, BioDerma, Vichy & Uriage

SPF Guide

SPF - Explained

A few years ago, choosing a good sunscreen meant looking for a high sun protection factor (SPF), rating how well the sunscreen protects against ultraviolet B rays (UVB).

Research soon showed that ultraviolet A rays (UVA) also increase the risk of skin cancer. Whilst UVA rays don't cause sunburn, they penetrate and cause dermal damage.

A High SPF is a false sense of security which can lead to either insufficient sunscreen application or not reapplying as often as you should. If you are going to be outdoors, it is imperative that you reapply your sunscreen every 2 hrs. Sunscreen essentially expires or is no longer effective after that time.

Natural Products To Avoid Before Your Surgery

The "natural products" listed below may be beneficial for a variety of ailments, but THEIR USE AROUND THE TIME OF SURGERY MAY NOT BE DESIRABLE.

Therefore, it is advisable to stop taking these products to avoid problems with surgery and anaesthesia. If time permits, discontinue the use of these products TWO WEEKS prior to surgery and TWO WEEKS after surgery.
