Several steps you can take before, during and after the treatment to help minimize the bruising and swelling.

1. Avoid Certain Medications, Vitamins and Herbal Supplements

Before your procedure, you will want to avoid alcoholic beverages and anti-inflammatory medications for at least 48 hours before the treatment – 7 to 10 days is ideal. These products thin the blood and can cause you to bruise more.

Some examples include: Advil, Aleve, ibuprofen, aspirin, fish oil, Gingko Biloba and Vitamin E. Before stopping any medication, be sure to check with your doctor.

2. Take Arnika

Arnika is a homeopathic supplement that we have used for years to help bruises diminish faster.

I recommend patients start taking the product two days before their procedure and continue taking it for five days afterwards or longer if needed.

Along with Arnica, it can also contains Bromelain, which can help with swelling and bruising as well.

3. Cool The Area

Cooling the treatment area with ice before, during and after your procedure causes the blood vessels to constrict and can help minimize bruising to the area.

Cooling for 48 hours following a procedure will also help decrease the swelling.
